TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:
WHEREAS Premier Ford is asking Ontario students to take on more debt to attend the most grossly underfunded colleges and universities in Canada; and
WHEREAS Ontario has the lowest level of per-student postsecondary funding in Canada; and
WHEREAS the Ontario government would need to increase postsecondary funding by $7.6 billion per year to reach the national average; and
WHEREAS Premier Ford is instead ending the freeze on tuition and converting OSAP grants to loans so students will be forced to pay even more interest to the Ontario government; and
THEREFORE we, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
Increase government funding to Ontario’s colleges and universities to the national average, return the OSAP formula back to 85% grants and 15% loans, and bring back the tuition freeze.
