TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:
WHEREAS the TDSB, under the board supervision of Conservative insider Rohit Gupta, is closing outdoor education programs at five centres across Toronto; and
WHEREAS the programs provide the opportunity for students to learn outside a traditional classroom setting—in forests, ravines, farms, urban environments, and on the Toronto Islands; and
WHEREAS more than 40,000 students participate each year through day trips and overnight programs; and
WHEREAS for most low-income, newcomer, and racialized students, the TDSB’s outdoor education program is the only chance they will ever have to learn in nature; and
THEREFORE we, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
Call on the TDSB to pause the closure of its outdoor education programs at Warren Park Outdoor Education Centre, Forest Valley Outdoor Education Centre, Etobicoke Outdoor Education Centre, Toronto Urban Studies Centre, and the Island Natural Science School.
