TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:
WHEREAS Doug Ford’s Conservative government closed the Ontario Science Centre in June 2024; and
WHEREAS an engineering report did not say the Science Centre needed to close, only that $40 million in roof repairs need to be done over 10 years; and
WHEREAS prior to the shutdown, Ontario's Auditor General had repeatedly warned that provincial funding for deferred maintenance projects was being denied; and
WHEREAS the government is spending up to $72 million taxpayer dollars on a temporary Science Centre at Harbourfront Centre; and
WHEREAS the government also plans on spending $1.04 billion taxpayer dollars on a Science Centre at Ontario Place.
THEREFORE we, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
Reopen the Ontario Science Centre immediately.
