TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:
WHEREAS Bill 110, Building Billy Bishop Airport Act gives Premier Doug Ford the power to seize control of the Toronto Islands, Billy Bishop Airport, and Little Norway Park; and
WHEREAS the Premier has declared the airport a special economic zone using the undemocratic Bill 5 which allows the Ontario government to bypass environmental, safety, and municipal laws; and
WHEREAS this land grab undermines the importance of municipal decision-making and public consultation with Waterfront communities; and
WHEREAS the Toronto Port Authority has confirmed that the expansion of Billy Bishop Airport will extend the runway by an additional 900 metres and cost up to $5 billion.
THEREFORE we, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
Repeal Bill 110, Building Billy Bishop Airport Act, rescind the special economic zone designation applied to Billy Bishop Airport, and respect the authority of the City of Toronto and the voices of waterfront communities in all decisions affecting Toronto’s waterfront and Billy Bishop Airport.
