Whereas safe, dedicated bike lanes are essential to promoting environmentally sustainable transportation, reducing traffic congestion, improving public health, and ensuring the safety of cyclists across Ontario; and
Whereas the removal of existing bike lane infrastructure undermines municipal efforts to build inclusive and forward-looking transportation networks; and
Whereas the Ford government's actions to tear up bike lanes in Toronto threatens to reverse years of progress in making our communities safer to cyclists; and
Whereas, public consultation, local planning authority, and data-driven transportation policy should be respected in infrastructure decisions.
Therefore we, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
Immediately halt any plans to remove existing bike lanes and respect the authority of municipalities to manage local transportation infrastructure.
