Highlights from Etobicoke Centre Schools

Students at Martingrove CI won two major prizes this year with Run Za Cao placing first among 4000 students in the University of Toronto National Biology Competition and Ming Ye Bian winning the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship, worth $5,000, for her academic excellence and community service.
Princess Margaret JS and Eatonville JS both achieved Gold EcoSchools certification while Humber Valley JMS, Wellesworth JS, Briarcrest JS, and Martingrove CI achieved Platinum certification. Ontario EcoSchools is an environmental education and certification program for grades K-12 that helps school communities become environmentally responsible citizens and reduce their ecological footprint. This year, the NorthWest Folkfest was held at Hollycrest MS. Broadacres JS and Briarcrest JS both participated in the event. Meanwhile, Rosethorn JS's choir performed at the City of Toronto's Asian Heritage month celebration while Humber Valley JMS's senior boys soccer team won the city championship. Gooooooo Grizzlies!
The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is an opportunity to get together with family and friends and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back in the hope of finding a cure. This year Silverthorn CI raised over $30,000 in donations during their own Relay for Life.
For over 30 years, the Scarborough Outdoor Education School (SOES) has specialized in environmental and outdoor education with over 5,300 TDSB students visiting between September and June each year. This year, 18 students and 2 staff members from Silverthorn CI helped build a cabin at Center.
